Peaceful Pastoralism
Peaceful Pastoralism
Overview
Peaceful Pastoralism programs aim to limit and reverse (where possible) the dynamics of competition for natural resources (mostly land and water) that exists in traditional pastoralist areas – and reduce the frequency and intensity of resulting conflicts.
Much of this programming aims to address the complex interplay of environmental, economic, political and social factors that drive natural resource scarcity in pastoralist areas. The initiatives most used are dialogue, sustainable resource management, education, addressing root causes and investments in infrastructure and governance.
The Humanitarian Impact Institute can conduct baseline or primary source research to inform program design, effective monitoring frameworks and then conduct external evaluations of peaceful pastoralism projects.
