Humanitarian Localisation

Overview

The Humanitarian Impact Institute (HII) specialises in humanitarian localisation and helping INGOs transition to effective localised operating models.

HII has conducted more localisation reviews and evaluations than any other organisation in the past several years.

Localisation is based on the widespread understanding that affected communities are best able to determine the humanitarian support that is best for them – therefore decision making power should be as close to the affected communities as possible.

Localisation also requires a focus on elevating the voices of marginalised groups including those living with a disability, women, older people and groups otherwise marginalised.

HII has helped clients develop localisation operating models, provided advisory and review services on transitions and assessed the effectiveness of different localisation approaches. We have developed a deep understandoing of both the practical barriers and practical opportunities localisation brings.
