Green and Blue Economy

Green and Blue Economy

Overview

The transition to a just, equitable and sustainable Green and Blue Economy must occur in order for natural resources to be protected and to reverse catastrophic eco-system decline. Green and Blue Economy strategies need to be citizen-driven in order to improve the well being and social equity of economic development while also reducing ecological risks.

In many situations, humanitarian and development programs can contribute to this just and equitable transition to both the Green and Blue Economy, either separately or independently – because human development in these programs is often so closely associated with natural resources.

Humanitarian and development programs need to balance ethics and tradition with a scientific basis for economic development and the transition to a just, equitable and sustainable Green and Blue Economy. The humanitarian and development ecosystem needs to redirect activities to take account of the environmental degradation and climate change causing effects of some programming techniques by adopting other more sustainable approaches. The Humanitarian Impact Institute will work with you to make these adaptations.
