Overview

Child Marriage and Child Labour are prevalent in countries, regions and contexts of extreme poverty and in some more developed contexts. The reasons behind child marriage and child labour are mostly economic with cultural norms and influential community leaders enabling the practice. In most cases gender dynamics are also significant factors.

The issue of child labour affects both boys and girls in different ways in different contexts. This includes debt bondage, slavery, sale of children, exploitative work and prirotisation of work at home over school.
