Climate Displacement
Climate Displacement
Overview
Climate Displacement is the migration and movement of people because of the impacts of climate change – such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, droughts and other environmental changes.
Climate Displacement will increase as the world heats and environments become less able to support human communities. Climate Displacement can occur internally or across borders. Climate displacement is a growing global challenge, with millions of people already affected and many more at risk as climate change intensifies.
Programs designed to reverse desertification, that use climate smart food system agricultural and livelihood programs and that support communities to become more resilient to climate shocks (including through DRR and early warning), can all be evaluated by the Humanitarian Impact Institute.
