Course Summary
This course is designed for current and future leaders of all levels in the humanitarian and development industry in NGOs, Charities, INGOs, companies and UN agencies.
The course is designed to make you a more visionary, inclusive, effective leader with increased influence in your current and future organisations. Graduates of this course will be better prepared to build and lead high performing teams in difficult situations.
This is a practical course that involves facilitated self analysis of your leadership strengths and weaknesses; working together in group-based coursework; and translating advanced leadership techniques into practical leadership approaches.
The learning is delivered in a diverse and psychologically safe environment by a number of senior HR, humanitarian and development leaders.
You will leave the course feeling more confident about your leadership approaches (in both your natural and adapted states) and with a wider leadership toolkit and knowledge base.

Learning Goal
To become a more effective, influential and inclusive leader in humanitarian and development settings. Application of the tools and principles taught in this course will enable you to take on more responsibility and lead larger and more effective teams.
Course Outline
The course modules are:

- Pre-course 360 survey with your colleagues (if you are currently employed)
- Analysis of personal leadership strengths and weaknesses
- Understanding divergent workstyles and strengths of employees
- Leadership vs management
- Inclusive leadership
- Making and communicating difficult decisions
- Creating high performing teams: forming, storming, norming, performing
- Visionary leadership communications
- Ethics and personal role modelling
- Humanitarian Principles
In addition, you will have one, two hour task to complete in between course days.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for leaders of all levels, or those entering a leadership position, who want to become more effective leaders in the humanitarian and development sector.
2025 Course Cost
€498 plus VAT (if in Ireland)
Subsidies Available
A limited number of free and/or subsidised (50% discount) places are available for employees of local/national charities and/or women-led organisations. In order to be considered for one of these places, your organisation must have a verified turnover of less than USD250,000 and you must be in a management position of some kind in this organisation.

Format & Requirements
This is an online course in real-time with other students and multiple teachers interacting throughout. We use collaborative video software so you will be joining with your video on to enhance communication. It is highly recommended you join the course using a computer, not a smartphone or tablet.

Passing Grade
The Humanitarian Leadership Course has no minimum passing grade. All students who complete the full course will receive a certificate from the Humanitarian Impact Institute.
