Just Transition

Just Transition

Overview

A just transition means an equitable and most importantly, sustainable, global economic future that supports human development for all (including youth and those least responsible for causing climate change).

For humanitarian and development actors this means new ways of thinking to address equity, distributional consequences of current humanitarian and development actions (and inactions), sustainable livelihoods and skills-building – and elevating the voices of marginalised and underserved people.

A just transition in humanitarian and development settings also recognises that youth are both the future and the solution – we as actors operating on humanitarian principles can support youth into climate harming or sustainable futures. The Humanitarian Impact Institute can support you to avoid the former and achieve the latter while balancing ethics and tradition against a scientific basis for economic development with more sustainable approaches.
