Humanitarian Social Value Analysis
Humanitarian Social Value Analysis
Overview
The Humanitarian Impact Institute conducts Humanitarian Social Value Analysis (SVA) to measure and understand the broader societal impacts of humanitarian and development interventions, beyond traditional economic or financial outcomes.
Humanitarian Social Value Analysis provides insights on the positive and negative effects that programming has on different communities and groups, especially those most marginalised as well as those that benefit the most. Social value is often viewed through a lens of inclusivity, equity, and long-term sustainability, emphasizing outcomes such as improved access to healthcare, education, social cohesion and community resilience.
Humanitarian Social Value Analysis is a related concept to Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) analysis. However it differs from AAP in that AAP is primarily assessing how well programs have been adapted to local populations and how responsive the programs are to the affected communities. By contrast, SVA analyses how social outcomes (such as empowerment, dignity, and the restoration of community structures) have been influenced by the programming.
Humanitarian Social Value Analysis enables communities to voice outcomes and constraints that are not always captured by programmatic outcome metrics.
